Alexandra
Harp
Hunter College High School
My name is Alexandra, and I am a junior at Hunter College High School. I have been a harpist for 12 years, and it has made me into the person I am today. I love playing in ensembles with other harpists, in chamber groups, in orchestras, or just by myself as I explore a multitude of genres, including classical, 20th century contemporary, and everything in between.

I have been playing the harp in my school's chamber ensembles and orchestra since 7th grade, performing with flute, violin, piano, and strings in various settings.

The harp is a passion of mine because it grants me the opportunity to teach people about instruments that are less commonly interacted with than violins or pianos. Giving people the chance to explore different instruments allows them to pursue diverse musical experiences, and opens up a world of creative license. Participating in the NEXTGen Teen Program has been an amazing way to advocate for music education in schools, and it makes me so happy to spread my love of music to students who have not been able to explore music as much as I have been fortunate enough to do.

Besides the harp, my other passions include learning about the chemistry and materials science of dentistry; running and pole vaulting with my school's Girls Varsity cross country/track & field team; writing for the medical publication I founded in sophomore year, the Pulse; organizing school functions as a Term Council member and Senator to the student government; and walking my corgi, Maisy.
I am statement
I am…
A girl who really wants to do everything she can to make a difference, whether it’s through music advocacy, spreading harp awareness, teaching elementary schoolers about chemistry, or leading my track team to various championships. Not only am I a student, a musician, a runner, a pole vaulter, and a daughter, but I am a dreamer, a leader, and an emblem of the future. While I am all of these things and more, I want to be someone who can both move forward through life and take time to appreciate the beauty and vibrance of the present.
